Platform update v2.1

Hey conservationists! We've been as busy as possible tying to update the platform for GDPR. As a result, we've also improved the account signup process and made some architectural changes which should allow us to bring you even more cool features pretty soon.

I'm sure you've heard enough about GDPR already so I won't bore you with any flowery language: we do take your privacy seriously, and we'll do everything possible to protect it.

New features

• Upload a profile photo and manage your account easier.

🛂 New signup flow 

• We now send you better notification emails when you create or update your account.

📩 Control your email settings

• Give or revoke permission for us to email you our weekly newsletter and other updates.

🔑 Data control

• A new page where you can request, edit or delete your data, as well as file a complaint.

📝 New Terms & Conditions

• More comprehensive yet easier to understand T&Cs that cover account creation, payment, refunds and more as we move towards allowing you to purchase experiences on the platform.

🕶 New Privacy Policy

• Explains exactly what data we ask you for in different contexts and how and why we use it.

🍪 New Cookie Policy

• Explains all the cookies on the site and their functions.

New T&Cs

T&Cs are simply the rules of using Conservation Guide and defines how the relationship between us, conservationists and organisations works.

It essentially sets realistic expectations of what we can and can't do for you.

We've spent some time putting them into relatively easy to understand language, so hopefully their meaning should be clear and they should not take too long to read through.

They also cover the new mechanisms we're using to allow you to buy and sell experiences on the platform.

New Privacy and Cookie Policies

A large part of GDPR is making sure companies who have your data are transparent as possible about how they use it - we hope we've done that with these new policies.

For full transparency, you can even find a diagram of how and when we ask for your personal data, and what happens to it.

In addition, there are details of how you can contact our Data Protection Officer (which is me)!

On a personal note, I believe GDPR is a great thing for humanity, and we will do everything we can to support it.
